3 Month Old Yogi

April 30th, 2009, in the wee hours

A little hard to believe it has been 3 months since I started practicing yoga.  I say that for a variety of reasons.  Because it is such a drastic departure from the exercise, varied as it was, that I had become accustomed to last year.  Because I’m heavily drawn to the philosophic aspect of yoga, despite never giving much thought to things of that nature before.  Because I’m sticking with it despite knowing it’ll take years to achieve many most of the postures.   I’m not kidding about that last one either.  I can still barely touch my toes!

However, one thing that isn’t surprising to me is the aspect that seems to surprise the most folks.  How often I practice.  I practice 5 or 6 (or 7) days a week, but I had been doing conventional workouts 5 to 7 days a week for a year before I started yoga, so the frequency isn’t a big change.

I do love how accessible yoga is.  In the past month I’ve done yoga with my mom and my 3-year old daughter.  (Yep, Liah takes a yoga class once a week!)

Sorry, no pics today, but rest assured I’ll post some pics (or maybe even video!) of me fumbling around on a yoga mat eventually!  It’s ridiculous how many times I’ve wiped out trying to learn headstands and handstands!
