Liah Loves Puja

May 31st, 2008, in the middle of the afternoon

As mentioned earlier, Aparna is out of town, but thankfully, my mom was able to come down to help me out this weekend. And by help me out, I mean take care of Liah and me. Liah loves to do puja, and my mom is great about letting her. Here are some photos from the two of them doing puja earlier today.

She’s So Happy

May 30th, 2008, in the wee hours

Aparna’s out of town this weekend visiting family in Ohio, but Liah is still managing to have a great time. Here are a couple of pics from tonight of Liah with Darshan uncle. I am absolutely in love with her smile in the first photo.

I’ll admit it was a little weird that Darshan was hanging out with the bear in his lap for a good 10 minutes before Liah joined him, but I’m not one to judge.

Thanks Singhs!

Sophia and Liah

Aparna & I actually did celebrate our 8th anniversary, and we did it in true Mo & Aparna style. We went to the Alamo Drafthouse for dinner and a movie! She & I love going to the Drafthouse, but we’re not exactly alone in that as it’s been voted the “best movie theater in America.”

We saw “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” I thought the movie was good. Pretty funny, but I didn’t get into the romance aspect. Aparna really enjoyed it; however, she always gets real sad when she sees movies about people finding their one true love. I wonder what that’s all about…

So of course we wanted to get a little parent’s night out, but our babysitter wasn’t available! Just when we thought we’d be celebrating our anniversary watching Elmo’s World with Liah, our pals Herb & Sheila came to the rescue and graciously offered to watch Liah! They’ve got two little girls of their own, so it was extremely nice of them considering they were willing to be outnumbered by the kids so Apu & I could celebrate.

Liah had a great time with the Singhs (as always), and Aparna & I had a great night out knowing Liah was in good hands. Thanks Herb and Sheila!

Eight is Not Enough

May 27th, 2008, late in the evening

Aparna & I celebrated our 8th anniversary today! 8 years of being married to me. Aparna is a strong woman.

It’s been a great 8 years. Aparna is a a fantastic wife. Really, I’ll just leave it at that. Oh yeah, she’s gorgeous. See above. And she totally married down. See below.

My Pals

May 26th, 2008, in the wee hours

Here are some of my closest friends and me.  From left to right: Garrett, Blogger, Rob, Mike.  We were at Garrett & Amy’s house for their 3rd annual Memorial Day party.  I’ve been best buds with Rob & Garrett since I was 9 years old.  As it turns out, a significant number of my current friends are folks I met before I was 10.  Not quite sure why that is, but there you go.  Mike had the pleasure of not really having to spend a lot of time with me until our college years, but I’ve wormed my way into his life too.

We don’t all get together often enough these days, but it is always fantastic to see them.  Except for Rob.

Back to the Book Store

May 20th, 2008, late in the evening

Here are Rohan, his dad, and Liah from another recent trip to the bookstore not too long ago.

Pick your favorite caption to describe the moment.

1. “Just another example of what Guys Nights Out have become.”

2. “Rahul enjoying his favorite book while Rohan wonders why daddy is drinking from a sippy cup.”

Caution: Lust, Caution

May 18th, 2008, late in the evening

As mentioned earlier, we watched two movies last night at Moews Cinema. While Gone Baby Gone was great, the other film we watched, Lust, Caution, was only ok. Actually, the majority of the movie was very good, but I did not care for the ending. Specifically, I did not feel the choice the main character made was true to how she had been portrayed throughout the movie. In my mind, the main character would not have made the choices she made at the end of the movie so the ending felt fake. However, prior to that the movie was very entertaining. Great direction, very interesting story, and great acting. If any of the three people who read this blog have seen the movie, I would be interested to hear what you thought of it.

Please note, this movie has some pretty graphic, sensual scenes. If you are Sheila somewhat prudish, you might want to think twice before watching it.

Great Baby Great

May 18th, 2008, late in the evening

Moews Cinema showed a double feature last night, and one of the movies was great! We watched Gone Baby Gone & Lust, Caution. Gone Baby Gone was excellent. I thought the acting was superb, the story was very good, and I even felt Ben Affleck’s directing was good. This was first time I had seen Casey Affleck acting, and I really enjoyed him in this film. In addition to all that, the movie presents an interesting moral quandary which led to a really fun discussion once the movie ended. If you have not seen it, I recommend renting it. If you have seen it, let me know what you thought.

We’re having a…

May 16th, 2008, early in the evening

Aparna & I are having another baby. Great news indeed, but since this blog is pretty much only read by people who know me, that won’t come as news to you. Baby #2 is due October 31st. Yep, Halloween.

I’ve been asking Liah for weeks now if she wants a brother or a sister, and she’s been pretty firm in saying she wants a sister. I’d always tell her that I’ll see what I can do.

Well, I’m happy to announce that Liah will be disappointed. We just found out moments ago and…

we’re having a boy!

We’re both extremely excited! So exciting to know we’ll be raising a son in addition to our daughter.

Hrmmm…2nd child. Boy. Older sister. Hrmm…sounds familiar. :)

End of the Road

May 16th, 2008, in the morning

It wasn’t too long ago I was in the air more than I was on land. I’m happy to report that not too long ago, my days as a Road Warrior came to an end. Here’s the damage:

  • 14 months
  • 40 trips
  • 140,000 miles

And that’s 140,000 miles in the air! Easily the most I’ve ever traveled in a 14 month period. Heck, that is easily the most I’ve traveled in a 2 year period. Granted, it’s nice having so many frequent flier miles, and it’s nice having super duper frequent flier status on American Airlines. However, it wasn’t worth it to me. Once I stopped traveling, it took Liah almost a month before she didn’t cry whenever I dropped her off somewhere (because she thought I was dropping her off to go out of town.) She also would ask everyday if I was coming home for weeks. I didn’t realize at the time how aware a 2 year old can be that her dad is gone a lot.

It’s good to be home.

Strikers

May 15th, 2008, in the morning

I snapped this pic on my most recent trip to Plano. Yes, this drawing is hanging in my old bedroom in my parent’s house. Witness 1985 Mohit.  Really, back then pretty much the whole drawing was accurate, not just the head.  Of course, my hair looks surprisingly similar today.
