Welcome to the Family!

March 15th, 2007, around dinnertime

That’s the newest member of the family. No, Aparna & I did not have a surprise kid. This cute guy is my sister’s second kid, and he was born just yesterday!

I’m thrilled to report Rohan Goyal Shrivastava is healthy and happy, as are his parents and his big sister.

Yep, Irma’s kids consist of an older sister and a younger brother. Much like Irma and myself. How exciting! For some reason, when I pointed out to Irma that Rohan is like her very own Mohit she began sobbing uncontrollably and shouting, “No! NO!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!”

Baba and Budhi

March 11th, 2007, late in the evening

That’s Liah with her pal Rohan; the dynamic duo also known as Budhi and Baba. This weekend, Rohan came over to play with Liah, and as the above photo makes clear, those two get along quite chummily. Below are Liah and Rohan hanging out in Liah’s Circus Tent, a gift from her चाचा (chacha.) The tent is in a slight bit of disarray due to the strenuous efforts of the kids to topple the tent while they are inside it.

did you notice the hand holding part of the tent together?

Let’s go fly a kite

March 5th, 2007, late in the morning

Kites!

We went to the 79th annual Zilker Park Kite Festival yesterday and had a great time! Granted, it was very windy (or “win-DEEEE” as Liah prefers to say), but that’s a good thing at a kite festival. Liah had fun hanging out with her friends, and so did we. Well, at least until the impromptu “Who’s the biggest FOB” competition started. (yeah, it doesn’t make much sense to put inside jokes on a blog, but “not making much sense” pretty much sums up my blog.)

I also finally posted some new photos on my Gallery. I’m way behind in posting pictures, so I went ahead and posted my newest pictures. Click on either of the photos in this post to view the album. You’ll find a few pictures of kites and a lot of pictures of Liah. What more could you ask for in a photo album?

I’m not quite sure where Liah is.

What a game!

March 1st, 2007, in the wee hours

A couple of quotes from the press…

  • “To recap Wednesday night’s thrilling, deflating, exhilarating, one-for-the-ages basketball game in the Erwin Center”
  • “one of the greatest games ever played in this arena”

I went to the UT vs. A&M men’s basketball game last night, and WOW! what a game. I went with my nemesis’ husband, Rahul, who I happen to be friends with. The “guy’s night out” permission was granted on the excuse that going to the game was Rahul’s birthday present from said nemesis. We never actually bought tickets, so we were forced to try and scalp some. It had been years since I had scalped tickets, but I’ve done it many times. I’d say 75% of the Cowboy’s games I’ve been to involved bying tickets from scalpers. The thing to know about scalpers is their prices are very fluid. We’d be quoted a price of $250 per ticket, and not 10 seconds later, it would be 250 for 2 tickets. We had a budget, and were able to get tickets within that, so we were happy. When we actually sat down (after being relieved of our fear the tickets were fake after they were successfully scanned), we were very happy because the seats were great!

The game was phenomenal! Easily one of the best sporting events I’ve ever attended. The quotes at the top are from various articles on the game. I only had my phone on me, so the photo below is low quality. Nevertheless, it’s a pic of the team celebrating right after the clock hit 0:00 (for the third time of course because the game went into double overtime!)

One final thought. It had been a long time since I had been around a large number of college students, and I quickly realized that’s a very effective way to feel old. They stood up most of the game. I sat down. They screamed and shouted the entire game. I started to get a headache midway through the second half from cheering. They went out to party and celebrate the victory. I was excited to get home before midnight.
