18 already

Liah turns 18 months old today, and I must say, it’s a great age. Liah can best be described as a firecracker; she is just so full of energy. She’s talking now, which is a lot of fun. She alternates between calling me “da-da,” which is nice, and “Mo,” which is a little awkward. We took her to the doctor today for her 18 month appointment, and I’m happy to report she is 100% healthy! She’s a bit underweight, but that’s probably genetic.

Ok, so Liah didn’t get her body type from me (thankfully), but something that Liah clearly got from me is being a smart alec. I had to take about 50 snaps to get the photo above of Liah naturally smiling. Why didn’t I just ask Liah to smile for the camera? Because this is what Mohit Goyal’s daughter does when you ask her to smile for the camera.

Double your money! Triple your money! No thanks.

I just don’t have the discipline to gamble… nevermind Vegas, I’m talking about the stock market!

I’m comfortable with options because of my time working at the Pacific Stock Exchange, so I decided back in early December that Apple was going to announce their new phone at Macworld on January 9th. Instead of buying stock, I bought some January options with a strike price of $100. Apple was in the mid-80’s at the time I believe.

I figured Apple’s stock would slowly rise until Macworld, then spike after the announcement.

Instead, the stock rose quickly in mid-December and I had opportunity to triple my money. Instead, I was greedy and did nothing. Then the stock sank because of Apple’s backdating woes and I was suddenly losing money! So the big announcement happened as I expected and Apple’s stock did indeed spike. What did I do? I acted out of fear and sold to break even. Of course, the stock continued to spike and I see now that I could have more than doubled my investment if I had not be so cautious. sigh…

Standing Room Only

January 8th, 2007, in the wee hours

We had a Cowboys watching party this past weekend. Even though it was just a wild card game, I had a bad feeling it would be the only playoff game for the Cowboys. (Unfortunately, I was right.) Nevertheless, we set a new record for seating capacity at Moews Cinema! The previous record of 8 had stood for a while, but we managed to beat it by 2.

(We also set a record for the most number of whiteys in Moews Cinema at one time.)

Hello 2007!

January 1st, 2007, in the wee hours

Happy New Year! I hope all my loyal blog readers have a great 2007. Well, that covers my mom and dad so I hope whoever else happens upon this page also has a great year. Irma, Aparna, and I rang in 2007 in our pajamas watching Dick Clark. Liah and Rani were fast asleep, but we unofficially rang in the new year earlier in the day with them. Hey, they didn’t know it wasn’t midnight! ;)
