Little Girl Liah
September 21st, 2006, early in the afternoon

Maybe this is why I’m not in marketing…
I ready today the amusement park I went to growing up, Six Flags Over Texas, has a promotion that allows customers to skip to the front of the line for most rides. All the customer has to do is eat a live, 3-inch long, cockroach! Crazy! Is this really where marketing is heading due to the desensitizing of America? What’s next? “Sign up for our credit card, eat a bowl full of maggots and get 25,000 free airline miles!” Can you imagine? I’d never do that! Of course, for 50,000 miles… ![]()
I happened to find out the Elmo T.M.X. was the hot toy this season and it was being released today when I was checking news on my phone while at the car dealership this morning. I decided to venture on over to Toys R Us on my way home and see if they had any. When I arrived there they actually had quite a few, so I decided to to buy one for Liah.
I must admit, the toy is somewhat cool. Elmo manages to sit down and even lie down on the floor, all while laughing hysterically, and then stand back up by himself. Liah, on the other hand, did not take to Elmo so well. Liah doesn’t care for TV yet, so she isn’t familiar with Elmo. As it turns out, his maniacal laughing and body gyrations freaks her out and she appears to be a bit scared of Elmo. However, she loves the box Elmo T.M.X. comes in! It’s shaped like a little suitcase and she carries it around with her all over the house. Go figure. (You are correct in that I did not wait until Christmas to give it to Liah, but rather opened it up as soon as I got home!)
I did think about buying some for Ebay at the time, but didn’t bother. I’m no saint however, as this evening I went to a few stores to buy extra T.M.X.’s, but everyplace was sold out, and the darn things are already going for over $100 on Ebay! No, I’m not going to sell Liah’s T.M.X….well, maybe if she continues to run away from Elmo every time I put him near her!
We had some of our Austin friends over today for Labor Day. As per the holiday tradition, I grilled Aparna made chicken salad and tuna salad. Everyone seemed to have fun, and Liah espescially had a good time. In fact, it wasn’t until later that evening when Aparna & I were looking at photos taken during the day we realized just how much fun she had!

In case it isn’t clear what is going on. Unbeknownst to Aparna and me, during the party a couple of our friends took it upon themselves to put Liah inside the washing machine.
In case you’re wondering what a baby looks like after a spin cycle …wonder no more!

Ok! Ok! So they didn’t actually wash Liah, they only held her entering the “vashing mashin” for the purposes of getting the photo. The second photo is what Liah’s hair looks like when I take a stab at it.
I especially like how serious Liah looks in the first photo. She knows that nothing good can come of entering the washing machine.
I’m already behind on posting our vacation photos, but I’ll also soon have up more ridiculous photos from today’s get together.
I’m happy to say we safely made it back earlier this week from our first family vacation. What a vacation it was! 12 days, 5 flights, 3 cities… Liah was a superstar and we had a great time. Pics to come soon from our visits to Atlanta, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
Upon returning home Liah was greeted with a package from her favorite cha cha. He had purchased a couple of gifts for her during his recent London trip! That’s Liah holding the Harrods teddy bear and wearing the tshirt he got her. In case you can’t read the shirt, here’s a better picture. Typical Maneesh.

For better for for worse, Liah is often screaming at the top of her lungs these days, so capturing the moment in these photos wasn’t terribly difficult.
