20 Minutes

2 years, 5 months ago on Wednesday, July 19th, 2006, late in the morning

One of the bigger gifts Liah received for her birthday was a playground set. Here’s a pic of Liah playing lounging in it.

Of course, when we received the gift, it had the two words attached to it that strike fear into me: assembly required.

Well, I noticed it said “20 minute assembly,” which I found encouraging. Wanting to be a good dad I rather quickly (by my standards) set about assembling the playground. Well, 20 minutes in I was most certainly not finished. 40 minutes. 60 minutes. Finally, over an hour in I had completed putting it together. Mildly frustrated I took a closer look at the box and noticed an asterisk next to the “20 minutes” promise.

I wondered what that could be for, and I didn’t have to search long to find out. Suddenly my hour-plus installation time made sense.

While a bit taken aback, I do appreciate their candor.

an acquaintance of ours bought an outdoor playscape that said assembly would take 8 hrs. they hired someone and it took them 1 1/2 to 2 days.
