Here’s Looking At You Kid
March 30th, 2006, in the wee hours

I’ll have all my photos from our trip soon, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek of “The Cutest Baby in the World”* from her trip this past week to New York.
*As voted by her mom and dad.

Aparna, Liah and I met up last week last month ok, ok, ok…so this actually happened in January! Anyway, we met up with RDR (Rohan, Dimple, Rahul) for some final celebrating of UT’s national championship. The kids didn’t really know what was going on, but the parents had a great time.

There were a lot of people checking out the tower. This includes hard core geeks who even brought their tripods. In fact, I managed to sneak a picture of one of these UT uber geeks in action.

I’m hanging out in Delta’s frequent flier lounge (thanks Irma!) waiting for my delayed flight, and I’m happy to report that I am warm! Yes, it is cold in New York, and what was the one thing I forgot in Austin? My coat. Luckily Maneesh (he of MKG Productions fame) had an extra coat (or 20) that I was able to borrow.
My quick trip to NYC is just about done. I flew in Friday and will hopefully be home not too late tonight.
I was able to see Maneesh’s new office and new home for the first time. Here’s the entrance to one of them. Can you guess which one?

If you guessed the entrance to his new house …you’re right! Ok, I’m kidding, that’s actually the entrance to his office.
It was very cool to see my little bro’s new places. His condo is really quite amazing. The design of it is fantastic in my opinion.
Working backwards, we spent Saturday night in New Jersey attending the surprise 25th wedding anniversary party for Aparna’s aunt and uncle who live in Marlboro. It was tons of fun seeing the in-law crew, and it wasn’t bad having lots of aunts and uncles to watch Liah.
Aparna’s dad came too which was great, and Liah loooooves here Tata.
Friday night we attempted taking Liah out to a “real” dinner for the first time. Yep, lots of people, lots of noise, the works. How’d it go? Well, we probably won’t be doing that again anytime soon. Liah did not want to sit in the booth, so Aparna & I spent a lot of time walking her around the restauarant. However, the restaurant itself was fantanastic. It’s called Sapa, and I highly recommend it! Not only is the food and service great, but the owner, Brian, is incredibly nice. He even gave Liah a present!
It had been a long time since I had been to NYC, and I’m really glad I went… though I think I’ll try and stick to visiting during the Spring and Fall from now on. Brrrr… it was soooooooooooooooo cold!!!! Give me Texas heat over New York cold any day!
Ok, time to go stuff some free snacks in my backpack before heading to gate!
So I’m at work today and suddenly people from across the hall come in asking if they can watch “the fire across the street.” Well, not to be rude I said “ok” and got up to check out the scene.
Well, they were right! One of the bars across the street was indeed on fire! I grabbed our office camera and took a pic.

Thankfully the fire department was able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to any other buildings.
Interestingly enough, this was not the first time a fire has erupted across the street from me!

The picture above is from the deck of our condo in San Francisco. The reason I pointed out Jay’s house is because when the accident happened I called Jay to tell him about it. The conversation went something like this:
Mo - “Jay! There was a car wreck right across the street from me and there’s a big fire and a car is burning and a fence is on fire and a house might catch on fire!!”
Jay - “That’s crazy stuff Mo. I gotta get back to work.”
Mo - “Ok. Bye.”
(Jay hangs up phone)
(3 seconds pass)
(phone rings)
Mo - “Hello?”
Jay - “I LIVE RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM YOU! IS MY HOUSE ON FIRE!??!?!?”
Mo - “Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that. It looks your house is going to be ok.”
Jay - “Thanks.”
