Red Hot Chili Pepper
October 30th, 2005, in the wee hours

More big news from the past couple of weeks: We’ve made it more than 3 months with Liah! She had her 3-month birthday on October 11, and she’s doing grrrrrrreat!
The weekend before she turned 3 months, Aparna’s fam came up to visit. That means Anila was in town! I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, Anila is awesome. Seeing her in all her 6-year-old glory makes me so excited for Liah to grow up. She is just so much fun. We all had a great time hanging out, even when we all went to the grocery store.
Actually, we went to the main Whole Foods here in Austin, and it’s a grocery store in name only. It’s more like a really fancy deli that also sells groceries. Of course pictures were taken. Heck, even Anila got into the picture taking action!
Here’s a great photo. Aparna’s feeding Liah and smiling so sweetly for a photo with Anila. Completely unaware that her kid sister, while also smiling sweetly, is giving her rabbit ears! Too funny.
I’ve posted an album of various shots of Liah’s 3rd month. Please feel free to browse, comment, and vote.
About that orange dress. No, it’s not an early Halloween outfit (don’t worry, they’re coming!). Liah was dressed up for the Red River Shootout! You see, Liah’s a huge UT fan (she just doesn’t know it yet.) So we dressed her up in the closest we could find to burnt orange. Nevermind she wasn’t allowed to watch the game. (No TV yet!)
Finally, yet another of Liah’s chacha’s met her in month 3. Pankaj was in Dallas for the weekend, and he and dad drove down to Austin just to see Liah (& Moews Cinema!) It was great to see him, and Aparna had a great line before he showed up. I was talking about how I need to finish connecting all the equipment in Mowes Cinema, and Aparna asked me, “Can’t Pankaj help you? He’s a dork like you right?” I don’t know if Aparna meant it has a compliment or not, but I sure took it as one!
Okay, time to hit the sack. Gotta get up in 5 hours to catch our flight to SF. Another perk of having some time off: Aparna, Liah & I are heading to the bay area for 5 days. Woohoo!
One of the big events the past 2.5 weeks was Liah’s first trip to Dallas. I’m happy to report she had a great time, and if you don’t believe me just look at this:

It was quite the weekend of firsts. Liah’s first weekend in Big D, the first time many of our friends met Liah, and the first time Aparna & I went out at night since Liah was born! How was our night out on the town? It was fun, and it served to prove what I already suspected about myself. That being I have no desire to be in crowded bars surrounded by drunk people anymore. Yep, I can say with complete confidence that I’m old. We actually went to a bar that was crowded and wasn’t too loud first, and we had a great time there. After that though, we went to a “typical” bar to pick up a friend of ours and it was everything that I loved when I was in my 20’s. Which means I couldn’t stand it now.
Be sure to check out the photos from the weekend, and be sure to leave comments!
Oh, and before I forget, it was the first time I saw my dad go all Emeril on a watermelon. Who knew?
Here are some more photos from the weekend. Click on any of the photos in this entry to see the album.
Well, well, well… so the blog is back. Yes, after a nearly 3 week hiatus, I’m back to blogging. If anyone is still reading this, consider your vacation from poor attempts at humor and exaggerated stories over.
The big news of the past three weeks in my life? I got let go from Motive. You might recall I started working for them at the beginning of this year. Well, they had an ok 1st quarter, a not so good 2nd quarter, and a dreadful 3rd quarter. As such, they cut expenses. Big time. I was one of the many expenses cut.
Here’s the take away from this: 9/11. No, not that 9/11, rather 9 for 11.
I’ve been thru 11 layoffs in my career. I started out pretty good, going 9 for 9 from 2000 to 2003, but I’ve been o for 2 since then. Of course, the first layoff worked out pretty well for me. It provided the impetus for Aparna & I to move to Austin, and I was able to experience working for a non-technology company for once.
I’m confident this situation will also turn out to be a good thing in the end. (That’s one of the perks of being an optimist!) In fact some good has already come of it. I’ve been able to spend tons of time with Liah, and I’ve had enough time to force myself to the gym! Granted, I’ve only been working out for a week, but it’s been a while since I worked out for a week!
I’ll have my resume up on snagabag soon, so you can all look forward to reading it!
