Screw That

3 years, 4 months ago on Thursday, August 25th, 2005, late in the evening

I just got back from a brief 48-hour stay in Dallas. In addition to hanging out with my parents (the 3 of us went to Fry’s Electronics together. I could not ask for better bonding!), I was able to spend some time with Mini, Raman, and Rishabh.

The four of us went to dinner at a restaurant I had not been to before, Luna de Noche. It’s Raman’s favorite Mexican restaurant, and I really liked the food. [Instructions to reader: say your favorite "Mo likes all food" joke to yourself here]

Despite my protests, Mini and Raman graciously paid for my dinner. Upon paying, Raman jokingly remarked, “You can pay for us when we come to Austin in 2 weeks!” (Raman, you do know you were joking, right?) I then replied with the very witty comeback, “Screw that!” That was immediately followed by a courtesy laugh from Raman and Mini, and then we heard it: a tiny little voice next to us said: “screw that!”

My eyes widened in horror as I turned to look at Rishabh, who met my fearful look with an adorable smile and proceeded to tell me, “screw that! screw that! screw that!”

I immediately started to apologize to Raman and Mini, but luckily they were laughing. Raman told me that Rishabh is a great listener, and he’ll pick up on anything you say. Well, we still didn’t want Rishabh showing off the new words Uncle Mo taught him, so I managed to distract him by bringing up the best attention getter for 2-year olds: ice cream. Yep, after getting him excited about ice cream, and then loading him up on sugar, it seemed he had forgotten about his new words. Whew!

This child rearing stuff is not easy! I shudder to think what words I’m going to unintentionally teach Liah!
