Home Sweet Home (Theater)
3 years, 5 months ago on Saturday, July 16th, 2005, in the wee hoursThis is the entry I originally planned on writing this past Monday. That now seems like a lifetime ago…
Aparna & I watched a movie last night titled, “In Good Company.” I think it is a great movie, and I highly recommend it. It’s very refreshing to see a well directed, well written, and superbly acted movie.
So here’s a quick shot of the movie as we were watching it at our house:

If you’re thinking the screen looks awfully big …you’re right.
I’m happy to present:

Yes, while Aparna was busy getting ready for Liah these past 6 months… reading books, buying what we need, etc, etc… I’ve been planning our home theater!
So what do we have? We have:
- A movie screen that is 11 feet across
- A High Definition movie projector
- Full 7.1 surround sound
- Seating for 8 adults
- 8 recliners with power recline
- 2 rows with stadium seating
- A popcorn machine
- A vending machine (Go Cowboys!)
- Automated lighting
- Automated curtains
- 5 lighted movie poster frames
- A few other surprises and…
- A GREAT place to watch movies, HDTV, and play video games
You can thank Tina Malhotra for the cheesy name. I’m not sure if she intended for me to take her seriously when she mentioned it, but I did! I’ve enjoyed working on this project, but I’m enjoying the finished project much more! There are still a few things left to do such as install the cabinet where the equipment will be hidden, and have the valance/drapes installed, but we are able to watch movies! Aparna’s family is visiting right now, and I watched The Lion King with Aparna’s 6-year old sister, Anila, tonight. Her enthusiasm for the “movie room” far outweighs my own, and it was very cool to see her having so much fun watching the movie while chomping on some popcorn.

…and yes, Liah loves the home theater:

This is by far, hands down, without question, indisputably, the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life. A Cowboys vending machine? Wowza.
And the theater thingy ain’t too bad either…

Sure, she’s cute, but what about her PS2 skillz?
It’s important to keep things in perspective…

Hey mo,
That is a very sweet setup for the home theater… Very
nice touch with the Cowboys vending machine and now
all you need is an indoor basketball court and I will be moving
my family to Austin.

You guys are so full of helpful comments.
Raj, just wait until September when Liah is dressed in her Cowboys onsie watching the ‘Boys with me!
Rob, …sigh.
Raman, indoor basketball court? You’re crazy. I’ll see what I can do.

[...] I’m happy to report Liah is doing very well. She’s almost 6 lbs (which is great considering she got down to 5 lbs her first week). I think she had a great 2nd week. Her dadi came to help out and spend time with her, and Liah had lots of other visitors. The highlight of course was meeting her chacha for the first time. Yep, MKG Productions came to Austin. Liah loves Maneesh! Be sure to check out my latest photos to see all the fun stuff they did together. like sleep. and sleep some more. and sleep even more. When Maneesh wasn’t sleeping he was at Moews Cinema watching movies. Sleeping and watching movies. Ok, I was jealous. Be sure to check out the photos to see all of Liah’s visitors this past week. [...] Finally, yet another of Liah’s chacha’s met her in month 3. Pankaj was in Dallas for the weekend, and he and dad drove down to Austin just to see Liah (& Moews Cinema!) It was great to see him, and Aparna had a great line before he showed up. I was talking about how I need to finish connecting all the equipment in Mowes Cinema, and Aparna asked me, “Can’t Pankaj help you? He’s a dork like you right?” I don’t know if Aparna meant it has a compliment or not, but I sure took it as one! [...]

[...] We’re in Houston now visiting friends and family. Tomorrow we might actually leave Liah with some family friends so we might actually be able to have time for one of the more elusive joys of being a new parent… seeing a movie at a movie theater. Oh, I still find time for watching shows at Moews Cinema, but there still something to be said for the BIG screen. [...]

[...] America’s Team miniature helmet And yes, I loved all of them. The two junk food dispeners will make their way to Moews Cinema, as will the Dallas Cowboys helmet. Unfortunately, the helmet is too small for Liah’s head. ahem…not that I tried to put it on her while she was sucking her Cowboys pacifier and holding her Cowboys blanket. The "cubes " are geeky little toys in which the stick figures inside each cube can interact with, and even move into, adjacent cubes. Perfect for little children and 32-year old men who haven’t grown up. Oh I got some other stuff, like jeans that are very in fashion. How do I know that? Two reasons: 1. I had never heard of the brand. 2. Maneesh was wearing the exact same brand. [...]

[...] Hello again! Yes, I’m back after another lengthy blog absence. I hope you all didn’t miss me too much. You can look forward to a few catch up posts, but I figure I’d start off with a real time update. So what’s going on? Well, I’m living the single life these days. Aparna & Liah are in Atlanta visiting Rani, Irma, and Manish. A little cousin-sister bonding between Liah and Rani! I wasn’t able to head out due to work, so I’m getting a little "Mo time." What does that mean? Well, allow me to share you with my dinner tonight: Never mind the quality. Aparna took our digital camera, so I was forced to use my very poor camera phone. Nevertheless, you can clearly make out my 4-course meal. You’re looking at mashed potatos for an appetizer, a main course consisting of an Aparna Original, aka Indian-style tuna, and for dessert …two toaster strudels! Oh yeah, two little Gatorades to quench my thirst. Random? Yes. Unusual? No. This is pretty much how I eat when Apu is out of town. Raid the fridge and assemble dinner. Dinner is in the big tray because I promptly took my dinner and laptop up to Moews Cinema and settled in for the night. In fact, that’s where I am right now. Enjoying some tivo’d shows and Aparna’s cookin’. Good times! Hey, at least I didn’t go with my usual dinner for when I’m home alone. [...]

[...] While I’ve been to lazy to blog, I haven’t been to lazy to sit around and watch movies. While I have been giving Mowes Cinema a workout, I’ve even seen some movies at movie theater. Amazing I know. With us going to Dallas recently, and with Aparna & Liah currently on vacation, I’ve been able to steal some free time. [...]
